Jekyll is a respected doctor and is a seemingly prosperous man. He participates within his community and is a charitable man. However, behind the scenes, Dr. This behavior takes a toll on his mind and he begins to succumb to doing experiments to get away from this overwhelming new self that has developed.
Throughout the novel we watch Dr. Jekyll try and keep himself from permanently becoming Mr. Hyde, his evil self. I recognize the parallel between Dr. Jekyll and Frankenstein for many reasons.
For instance, Frankenstein grew up in an extremely respectable family and was a good-hearted child. However, in his youth he began to become susceptible to works of philosophy and pseudoscience his father had lectured against.
The more he grew up and the more he became interested in these works, he began to concoct the idea of an experiment to create a new species. This became clearly evident in the end of the novel when the monster had finally killed his family.
Throughout the novel we watched Frankenstein try to maintain a grasp on reality and not surrender to his evil and vengeful side.
